His passion: Create, Lead, and Teach Worship
that is…
v Intergenerational: The Body of Christ is brought together, from “8 to 80,” in worship experiences that are planned and celebrated in a way that communicates to all ages and blesses families that desire to worship together.
v Convergent: The best hymns, rites, and liturgy of our Lutheran heritage converge with the best new songs, technology, and media to experience ancient truth in today’s post-modern, post-Christendom world.
v Missional: We strive to model for seekers what real worshipers act and sound like in God’s house. Rather than entertain, we engage; rather than pander, we serve by inviting the seeker to experience the very presence of God. God’s people are equipped and inspired during worship to serve as missionaries.
v Participational: Every act and rite is designed to engage the congregation as willing, enthused, engaged participants rather than spectators; the priesthood of all believers finds full expression as gifted people serve in worship alongside their ordained pastors.
v Seasonal: We celebrate using the rich tradition of the Church Year and the customary lectionary readings, renewing these tools to address current needs, while also crafting thematic series throughout the year that bring the gospel to bear on our issues of life.
v Sacramental: The Holy Spirit breathes life and light during baptism, and breathes renewal during the highest moment of our experience: the reception of the true body and blood of our Lord.
v Word-Driven: It is not our “felt needs” that guide our quest for truth, but the truth of the Word that sets the agenda for worship and guides us into an awareness of our need for Christ.
v Culturally rich: We exegete the culture of those we serve – to understand their world and its stories – in order to re-live the story of salvation in worship. We welcome diversity in multi-cultural expressions of the gospel and consider it a sign of strength rather than weakness.
v Counter-cultural: We “transcend the culture” by shaping worship that is not by the culture but for the culture; not adapting the truth but applying the truth in ways that channel God’s grace dynamically, effectively, and winsomely.
v Eclectic: While boldly Lutheran, we make use of theologically sound resources from the whole church on earth, enriching our heritage with the riches of other heritages in the body of Christ.
v Multi-sensory: Our God works upon and through our sight, hearing, tasting, touching, and smell to bring his love to fullest expression; we therefore make use of current technology and all appropriate art forms to celebrate the gospel with all the senses.
v Transformational: The message experienced is that we’ll never be the same, for God has a divine appointment with each of us that brings newness and change (1 Cor. 12:2).
v Transcendent: While we are comfortable in our Father’s house, there is yet a perception of the mystery of his presence and awe of the holy in our midst.
v Incarnational: The risen and reigning Christ is present in our midst, and people who are being “transformed into his likeness” (2 Cor. 3:18) minister in Jesus’ name, engaging in ministry during worship, and leaving aware that their service has just begun.
